HOW TO APPLY COLORS OF SWEDEN PAINT

Before you learn how to apply furniture paint, glaze and a topcoat it is very important that you learn how to prep your furniture first.

  • Furniture Prep: Clean your furniture well using Krud Kutter Gloss-Off according to the package directions. No rinsing is necessary. Using Simple Green and a scrub sponge is another option for prepping your furniture. If the piece was previously waxed, use Denatured Alcohol to remove the wax. Paint will not adhere well over wax, so be sure to remove all of the wax.
  • Stir the paint well before use
  • Application: Apply paint with a brush, 1/4″ nap roller or sea sponge.
  • Colors of Sweden paint is not a chalk type paint and those brushes for chalk type paints do not work as well as a synthetic brush designed for acrylic paint. Use a good quality brush, a soft synthetic type is good for acrylics, like a synthetic Zibra Palm Brush.

  • Do not paint out of the can or jar. Because our paint is non-toxic it does not contain harmful fungicides; if you paint out the can or jar you are introducing contaminates into the paint, that could result in the paint smelling. It is best to pour off what you need onto a paper plate or paint tray; do not pour it back into the can or jar.
  • Allow to the paint to dry 4 hours before applying a second coat of paint, glaze or topcoat.
  • Coverage: Approximately 100 square feet per quart.
  • Clean up: Use warm soapy water.

Note: Do not freeze or paint in direct sunlight.

How to Apply Colors of Sweden Antiquing Glaze

  • Stir well before use.
  • Application: Be sure newly painted pieces have dried thoroughly, at least 4 hours. Apply the Antiquing Glaze with a good quality brush or a 1/2″ nap roller. Wipe off excess glaze as desired using a foam brush, natural sea sponge, staining pad, cheesecloth or lint free cotton rag. Wait until dry, about 2 hours, then apply Topcoat if desired.
While our glaze is protective and dries hard, it is recommended to use our Colors of Sweden Topcoat on tabletops and cabinets.
  • Clean up: Use warm soapy water

Note: Do not freeze or paint in direct sunlight.

How to Apply Colors of Sweden Topcoat

  • Stir well before use, DO NOT SHAKE
  • Application: Be sure pieces painted and/or glazed with the Colors of Sweden have dried thoroughly, at least 4 hours. Apply our Topcoat with a good quality brush or 1/4″ nap roller. Allow the Topcoat to dry 4 hours, if adding a second coat.  Lightly sand with 400 grit sandpaper, wipe off the dust with a lint free rag and apply the second coat.
  • Coverage: Approximately 150 square feet per quart.
  • Clean up: Use warm soapy water.

Note: Do not freeze or use in direct sunlight.
